Question:
Daniel, poets use various methods to write...
...how do you write poetry?
Answer:
When I write poetry I go back, I go ahead; and I create from exactly where I am. Every piece of work I write is a unique expression; a short story of a particular person, moment or feeling.
Writing poetry is intimacy portrayed; it is the heart expressed through words. Poetry flows from the thoughts in our minds; it flows from the experiences we have gained in our lives. Poetry is weakness, strength, sadness, happiness, hope, despair, suffering and great joy; creatively spun. Poetry is an extension of the blood that flows through the author’s veins.
I love writing poetry because it is very requiring. The more poetry you write the more creativity needed to continue the uniqueness. From a writer’s perspective it is important that each poem has its own identity— this requires creative thought. From another angle, poetry can also be very draining to write; tapping into the past can set a person back for days.
Notable poetry is not easy to write— because for poetic expression to be celebrated it must be able to touch the heart of the reader; it must reach the reader at the feeling level. Great words reach the soul of a person; they go inside and make an impact.
In my opinion the goal of a writer should not be— to be great. Rather a writer should hunger for words, expression and a voice that can positively uplift, inspire and accomplish great things.
